About

In his words
The why behind the firm.
Some law firms are volume based law firms where clients are just a file number and where time equals money. That is not what I am building and not how I practice law.
I want to be the person a client does not hesitate to reach out to with questions, the person an individual or family calls before making a decision, and the person advisors call for advice. That is a smaller practice on purpose. It means fewer clients, intentional planning, personal relationships, and a willingness to spend more time with clients to ensure each client understands their legal documents.
A great deal of what gets sold in this field is sold on fear, or on claims that do not survive a careful reading. I would rather discuss your goals and work with you and your advisors to accomplish your goals.
The path
Accounting first, then tax, then law
The numbers came before the law, which is the reverse of the usual order and the reason tax analysis comes first here.
Completed alongside the law degree.
Admitted to the South Dakota bar the same year.
A year spent entirely on the tax code, which is what makes the transactional and trust work possible.
A practice concentrated on estate and trust planning, asset protection, agricultural succession, and business transactions.
